What is this referendum about?
This referendum asks students to vote on whether to adopt a new constitution for the Students’ Union, replacing the current one.
What is the Students’ Union constitution?
The constitution is the Union’s rulebook. It sets out:
- How the Union is governed
- The roles of elected officers
- How decisions are made
- The rights of students within the Union
Why is a new constitution being proposed?
A new constitution is being proposed to merge MTU Cork Students’ Union and MTU Kerry Students’ Union which are currently two separate entities
How do I vote?
You can vote:
- Online through the Union’s voting platform, details will be made available through student email accounts and through social media.
When is the referendum?
- Voting will take place on 25th & 26th March 2026

Is there a minimum turnout required?
A minimum turnout of 10% for the result to be valid.
Who oversees the referendum?
The process is usually overseen by The Union’s Returning Officer
What should I consider before voting?
You may want to think about:
- Whether the new structure improves representation
- How it affects accountability of Union leaders
- Whether it makes it easier or harder for students to get involved
