Welfare

The Students Union represents the students of MTU Cork and we are here to help you during your time here. We work for YOU.

Our Welfare services are in place to help you with various issues including mental health, financial concerns, accommodation, sexual health and addictions to name a few. Your personal and general safety is also a concern along with any other issues such as bullying that may arise during your first year. We have information on just about everything that includes college life. We also have contact information for services across the country and much more.

Throughout the year we run several campaigns (where possible with Social Distancing and/or online!) such as Positive Mind and Body Week, S.H.A.G. Week, Safety Week, and Exam Destress to name a few. Our aim for the year is to ensure that you are given the opportunity to make the most of your MTU experience, that it is a happy, healthy and safe one.

To help you with your Sexual Health, there’s a supply of Condoms in the MTU Cork SU welfare office. Condom use is very important as they prevent Sexually Transmitted illnesses and Unplanned Pregnancies. We have a wide range of information leaflets in my office about many different problems like Domestic Violence and Accommodation. While we are always willing to talk to people about their problems, we have to make you aware that we are not trained councillors. We will listen and offer the best support I can and I will be able to refer you to extra assistance if needed.

My aim for the year is to ensure that your experience in MTU is a happy one and a safe one. The best way to do that is to let you hear as many sides as possible to the important issues in society today. The best advice that I can give to everyone in MTU, whether you are starting college or returning, is to Be Yourself.

I want to wish you the best of luck in your coming year here in MTU and I look forward too meeting you all.

Best of Luck,

CITSU Vice-president Welfare
